Chairwoman Jacqui Irwin will invite testimony from local business, academic leaders, local government officials, and law enforcement who are all embracing the challenges and opportunities that cybersecurity presents. As we have seen, cyber-attacks are becoming more frequent, more sophisticated, and more of a factor in our economy all the way down to the local level. This hearing will focus on building public awareness and identifying resources, as well as opportunities for workforce development and academic leadership on the issue. Additionally, we will learn about how our local governments are taking steps to prevent cyberattacks on our public infrastructure and other electronic crimes, as well as how law enforcement in protecting the public from these new threats. Also, the hearing will feature discussion of Governor Brown’s Executive Order on Cybersecurity released on August 31, 2015.
