Be Prepared Safety Fair with the City of Thousand Oaks

Join my office and the City of Thousand Oaks for a free, family-friendly event, where being prepared is a priority to keep you and your loved ones safe. Explore exhibits with home hardening tips and information on finding insurance in this difficult environment. Attend presentations from experts on disaster preparedness and current crime trends. Meet the K9's, visit the Pet Adoption area and much more!

For Families — face painting and art projects. Participate in Touch-a-Truck activities with public safety vehicles including specialty vehicles, trucks and trailers provided by the Ventura County Fire Department, the Thousand Oaks Police Department, Ventura County Sheriffs, the City of Thousand Oaks, California Highway Patrol and others.

In addition, the event will feature:

  • Hands-only CPR
  • Narcan Education
  • Stop the Bleed Education
  • Evacuation Maps

  • 10 a.m. - Crime Trends and Local Happenings with Thousand Oaks Police Chief, Jeremy Paris
    Chief Paris will update us on issues including retail theft, burglaries, encampments and other happenings in our community. Chief Paris will share some of the innovative programs available to residents that are making a difference.
  • 10:35 a.m. - Local Evacuations - Before, During and After. - City and County Emergency Managers
    Hear from local Emergency Managers as they present various evacuation planning efforts, maps and strategies to consider before, during and after a community is evacuated.
  • 11:10 a.m. - Practical tips to protect your home and loved ones, Ventura County Fire Marshal Joe Morelli
    Discover how smoke alarms are lifesaving partners and gain practical tips to keep your home safe and secure. Learn about the incredible resources offered by the Ventura County Fire Department's Community Risk Reduction Services. Fire Marshal Morelli will share invaluable insights to protect your home and loved ones. This includes free home wildfire assessments, education on home hardening and defensible space, and CERT training.
  • 11:45 a.m. – 7 Steps to Earthquake Safety with the Earthquake Country Alliance
    If you have felt the earth move under your feet the past few months...then you might want to "Be Prepared" for--not if, but when--the next quake happens.
  • 12:20 p.m. – Home Hardening for Fires with the Resource Conservation District and Firewise USA
    Learn about the critical aspects of home hardening and the creation of defensible space as vital measures to protect properties in the wildland-urban interface. Information will also be presented on becoming a Firewise USA Community for safety and insurance needs.
