Ventura County legislators had this to say about the state's plan to increase the minimum wage starting next year in increments that will bring it to $15 by 2022:

"Income inequality is a defining issue in California and across our country. California has the highest poverty rate in the United States. Raising the minimum wage will help lift many working families out of poverty and put money back into their local economies.
