Governor may approve big changes to remedial education at California's community colleges

Four out of five California community college students must take a remedial math or English class at some point in their college career. For some, that’s largely repeating what they already learned in high school.

But under a proposed bill headed to the governor’s desk that passed unanimously Thursday in the state Legislature, many more students may soon avoid that path.

Judges can start charging for weekend weddings again

The ban on compensating California judges for performing weekend weddings has ended, possibly clearing the way for Saturday nuptials to be restarted at the county government complex in Ventura.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Monday that immediately restores the opportunity for judges to charge nominal fees for officiating at weddings on weekends or holidays.

Assemblywoman Pushes for Additions to State Technology Recovery Plans

Seeking to further bolster California against cyberattacks, lawmakers on Tuesday approved legislation that would require state agencies and departments to inventory their critical infrastructure controls.

The inventory would be an added requirement of the Technology Recovery Plans that lawmakers last year asked state entities to complete by July 2018 and submit to the California Department of Technology.
