Assemblymember Irwin's statement on California State Auditor's Report, Mobile Home Park Inspections: The Department of Housing and Community Development Must Improve Its Inspection Processes to Better Protect Park Residents.
THOUSAND OAKS, CA – “Today, I find myself disappointed by the State Auditor’s findings of the California Department of Housing and Community Development’s Mobile Home Park Inspections, which confirm what my office has come to understand over the last year. HCD’s Mobile Home Inspection practices significantly lack in providing information and guidance to residents who are subject to random state inspections, with a complete disregard for those in need of translation services. On multiple occasions, my staff had to be present during these inspections to translate between English-only speaking inspectors and my Spanish speaking constituents. This is unacceptable. Had my staff not been there, an entire mobile home park in my district would not have been fairly assessed. I look forward to seeing much needed improvements to HCD’s Mobile Home Inspections, as recommended by the audit.”
