Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today announced the following appointments:
Ellen Tauscher, 64, of San Francisco, has been appointed chair of the Governor's Military Council, where she has served as chair since 2013. Tauscher served as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security affairs at the U.S. Department of State from 2009 to 2012 and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1997 to 2009. This position does not require Senate confirmation and there is no compensation. Tauscher is a Democrat.
(Oxnard, CA) – Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks) hosted a special meeting of the State Assembly’s Budget Subcommittee No. 2 on Education Finance at Oxnard College to discuss a new $60-million, one-time incentive grant program, funded by legislation she authored, to improve community college remediation practices. Almost 75% of entering California’s community college students are deemed unprepared for college-level work and in need of basic skills courses. Irwin and students explain the necessity of programs that aim to increase the number of students who complete basic skills, enabling them to pursue a college certificate or degree.

Unique Legislation Focused on the Demand Side of Sex Trafficking Passes through Public Safety Committee

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection and the Assembly Select Committee on Cybersecurity held a Joint-Oversight Hearing today to review recent developments in cybersecurity and the State’s strategy to address the issue. In a year filled with high-profile security breaches in both the private and public sector, there was also significant legislation and Executive Orders at both the State and Federal level. The hearing considered the impact of these new policies on California state government and what steps can be taken to improve the State’s security posture.
“We want to identify issues with the State’s governance structure for cybersecurity, including risk assessment and management, incident response planning, and budgeting,” said Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin (D-Thousand Oaks), Chair of the Select Committee on Cybersecurity.
